Huia Residence

Huia Residence offers comfortable accommodation in Grafton, just down the road from the Medical School. It is a short walk to the city center and also to the trendy Newmarket and Parnell shopping precincts. There are limited rooms available at Huia (20). Our other halls, for which we have more rooms available, are just a little further away into the city center and down the hill a bit. If you are able to walk the hills of Auckland please consider our other accommodation first to be mindful of our guests who are potentially less able :)

The halls are situated in prime position on Mount Street, making them close to both the School of Medicine (15 min walk up the hill in Grafton) and also to the heart of the city a few streets over on Queen Street. With 40 rooms available for our ANZACA guests O'Rorke promises to be the social hub for the event and is perfect for those wanting to explore the city.

Alternative Accommodation

Auckland city has many alternative accommodation options available to those who wish to book to suit their own comfort needs or budgets. The Grafton campus is situated very close to the city center so you should never be too far a walk away. Bear in mind that the main streets of Auckland center are quite hilly and can be quite steep at times so the closer you are to Grafton the less of the hill you will have to walk. December is a busy time of year in Auckland so unfortunately we cannot offer any special rates or reserve rooms but some suggestions are listed below.

For those on a shoestring budget there are many backpackers around town, offering affordable rooms and a lively, social atmosphere with plenty of traveler vibes. In particular Karangahape road, Newmarket, or anywhere in the city center will be good options. Again - be aware that the closer you go to the water front in the city center the more hill you have to walk up :)

For those looking for a little bit more comfort or maybe a larger bed Auckland has many premium hotels nearby to the School of Medicine such as The Langham or Grafton Lodge (Grafton), Kiwi International (City Center) or Quest Apartments (New Market). Some of these venues, such as Quest Apartments, offer 2 or 3 room flats with options for double beds or two singles per room, meaning you can potentially fit a lot of people in one flat or just spread your legs in your own king size bed! Some links to the hotels mentioned above are provided below but needless too say there are many other options available in Auckland.

Directions

The Conference will be held at the University of Auckland Medical School (FMHS Grafton Campus, 85 Park road, Auckland).

If you are situated in any of our offered accommodation the Medical School is but a short walk away.

If you have booked your own accommodation deeper in the city or further out of town and don't fancy the walk then there are plenty of public transport options available including:

- A ready fleet of Uber drivers - download the app and away you go!

- Many buses - choose any which go via Auckland City Hospital (opposite the Medical School). The best options

for picking up a bus are to go to Symonds Street or Queen Street as these are the main arteries through the city and so have many busses passing through all the time. For more information you can visit the link below:

 https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/

- Auckland Bubble Taxis +64 09 300 3000 - these can be booked in advance and will take you wherever you want to go (these are definitely more expensive than Ubers)

- Rail network - Auckland has a fairly well supplied rail system. Take any train that goes to Grafton Station and you will only be a short 2-3 minute  walk away from the Medical School. Details are given in the link below:

Parking on the Grafton Campus

  • Unfortunately we cannot provide any parking as part of the conference. Central Auckland is notoriously short on parking, especially at the university. There are many off-campus parking options including metered street parking or all-day covered car-parks. All-day early-bird rates are often offered, especially at Wilson car parks (of which there are many about), so it is possible to find parking as low as $6 for the day if you can get in before 9-9:30am. Please contact us for advice or feel free to search online for some advice on the most suitable parking options for your needs.
